Christian Léger completed his bachelor degree in mathematics at McGill University in 1983.  Five years later, he obtained a Ph.D. in statistics from Stanford University.  His career started in 1988 at the Département d'informatique et de recherche opérationnelle of the Université de Montréal.  In 1994, he joined the Département de mathématiques et de statistique and became an associate professor in 1999.

His involvement in various associations of statisticians began from the outset of his career.  He was a member of several committees at The Institute of Mathematical Statistics of the American Statistical Association and the Statistical Society of Canada (SSC) where he, notably, chaired the Research Committee. He is presently at the helm of the Statistics Laboratory. His involvement in the scientific community has taken a multitude of paths. He has organized sessions at the SSC Annual Meeting and was member of the Program Committee of the Joint Statistical Meetings 2002 in New York where over 4700 statisticians met.  He is also President of the Local Arrangements Committee for the SSC Annual Meeting to be held in Montreal in 2004.
