In this talk, I will give a brief survey of my series of joint papers with Jiaping Wang and also other subsequent results in the subject. Objects of our investigation are complete manifolds whose Ricci curvature has a lower bound. If the manifold also admits a certain Poincaré inequality, then one can conclude certain topological and metric properties of the manifold.
